Val’s Block Gains Shrine Status

Friday 4th September 2015

Unusual goings-on at Val’s. Deborah’s husband died weeks ago but she’s only just got around to burying him, possibly owing to indifference. Val says her make-up is applied with a boxing glove in a dark cupboard. The location of her mouth has been in question for years. Len was quite vile, even after, or especially after, being rescued by Val when he was crying for help and could be heard all over the block and Val got the Police. This was while Deborah, with her uncertain mouth, was out. So after the late cursory funeral, what does Deborah do? She lays the floral tributes in front of the block!  In the first place, who in their right mind would have sent floral tributes for such an unpleasant man? Val remarks. And what does Deborah indicate by this public display of them? That the block didn’t love Len enough? Now the flowers are rotting. I said to Val, ‘There’s a danger of misunderstanding. Passers-by might assume a tragic incident. Further flowers could follow. Before you know it your block could be a sea of loving flowers, like Kensington Palace after Diana.’  Come to think of it, Val himself could become a shrine in his own lifetime. Val said he hopes to nip out when the rubbish cart is next passing and fling the dismal wreaths in.
