Sunday 23rd February 2014
We begin the 90th Birthday for the Gay Mother in one and a half hours. I’m to fetch Cousin Paquita from Reddon, whose fastness she now rarely leaves. She would only come if fetched. Her husband and sister-in-law, Cousin Teddy and Cousin Lunetta, have not gone down the drive in 20 years, not even for a funeral.
This afternoon’s function is in fact for the village, Church and neighbours. The Gay Mother has banned all speeches and outfits. Tomorrow is the actual day.
So in the meantime, here are some shoes from last week’s Alice Temperley Show. Upper frockage is of little importance apparently, judging by what one saw, but shoes are everything.
